Written and recorded during the 2020 lockdown, Superchunk’s surprise Halloween single is a paranoid parable about the perils of being shut in for too long with only the voices inside your head for company, backed by a 1983 track by one of the band’s favorites, The Sisters of Mercy. 

Mac McCaughan on how the single came together: “I didn’t write a song for probably the first 6 months of the lockdown. This is one of the first and it came just in time for Halloween. Jim and Jon came over with their masks on, and Laura tracked her bass in her bass-ment. Try and get some fresh air when you can, people!”

Of the subsequent 7-inch release, Mac says: “What’s truly frightening is that it takes years to get a record made these days! But we are known for our seasonal work, so we’re happy to have these tunes about spectral cohabitation out in the world!
